Pine Cove City | July 2024

“Love your neighbor as yourself”

Mark 12:31

I often find myself wondering how I can love better and do more post-Sunday morning sermons. The words from the stage are set to inspire and ignite a desire to practically apply Jesus’ love- but then life gets in the way. Someone needs a snack, dinner needs to be made, someone needs a bandaid, the laundry is piling up and then it is Monday morning and the week begins again.

How do we set aside time and space in our daily lives to love and serve others?

This summer the answer could be easy: camp.

Summer camp- a nostalgic phrase for so many eliciting memories of cabin mates, canoes, campfires and lifelong friendship. This summer Woodcreek is bringing camp to our campus by hosting Pine Cove City – a day camp designed just for elementary-aged students. Campers will be in ‘cabins’ with their friends, and have camp counselors with cool camp names like Fish Face or Gator or Banana Nana. Pine Cove provides the whole camp experience and the gospel in a perfect package.

Camp counselors stay in host homes and I am so humbled and grateful to announce that we had the perfect amount of people open their homes this summer for the 40 Pine Cove counselors. Initially, we were going to have this space serve as a last-time plea for more homes but as I was writing this – two more families came forward wanting the chance to practice the spiritual gift of hospitality. So how can you be a part of what is happening?

Would you partner with us this summer in praying for each camper and counselor that walks through Woodcreek’s doors?

So far, we have 135 campers and 41 counselors, along with the Pine Cove staff, joining us for the week of July 4th. We ask for your prayers for the safety of everyone on campus. Please pray that the children’s hearts will be turned to the Lord, and for the energy, health, and hearts of the counselors. May they feel as loved as they are loving.

Please also pray for our volunteers who will be serving lunch throughout the week, as well as for the special evening events for the Pine Cove staff and their host home families. We ask for God’s presence in all that we do this summer.

God can use this camp to change lives, and Woodcreek is ready.
