This week we are studying John 21

Here are some study guides:

1. Read the chapter in one sitting without taking notes. Then go back throughout the week to answer these questions.
2. Jot down the setting (location, time, and plot) and the characters involved.
3. Why might Peter and the other disciples go fishing during these times?
4. Who is “the disciple whom Jesus loved?”  What does this say about John’s thoughts on Jesus?
Application – What would say call yourself in relationship to Christ?  Remember that Jesus loves you, too.
5. What is Peter’s reaction to Jesus Christ being on the shore?  How is this different than chapter 19? 20?
Application – What is your reaction to Jesus when He shows up in life situations, revelation, godly advice?
6. What is the miracle that takes place?  Why do you think John is trying so hard to show that this is the same Jesus that died days earlier?
7. Why does Jesus ask Simon the same question three times?
Application – What might Jesus need to ask you three times to make His point?
8. What does Jesus mean when He says “Tend my sheep”?
Application – In your sphere of influence or leadership how are you ‘tending the sheep?’  Who are your shepherds?
9. Why would Jesus let Peter know what fate awaits him?  What is Jesus’ charge to Peter in response to Peter’s questions about John?
Application -  How can you follow the Lord and glorify Him?  Do you stumble with comparing yourself and your calling, status, popularity, circumstance to others?  What really matters?
BONUS:  Write down a purpose summary statement for the book of John.  What does the book say?  What is its purpose for the reader? How is it unique in the Gospels?
Application – If you were to write a book of your own witness of Jesus Christ, what would you say about Him?  Try to come up with a one or two sentence summary.
