We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
This passage is huge for all of those who believe in Jesus Christ. It is this verse that I believe captures the idea of what baptism represents. In baptism a person enters the water, representing their impurity and iniquity. When they are put under the water, this symbolizes the death. The death of Christ on the cross taking our impurity and iniquity, it also symbolizes the death of the old self that first stepped into the water. It is in emerging from the water that we are a new creation. That is why baptism is so symbolic and so important in a Christian’s profession of faith. When we understand what baptism means, we are capable of walking in the newness of life.
- Do you feel like you have a understanding of what baptism is?
- Have you professed to be a Christian and been baptized?
- Will you today walk in the newness of life?
