Romans 6:6

We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

So much hope and sadness are embodied in this small passage in Romans. The hope comes from knowing that we are free. We are free from sin, it is no longer our master and no longer our defining factor. With this great hope comes my sadness, the sadness that I had life full of sin. My sadness comes from knowing that my Savior endured a literal crucifixion so that I would never be the same. He died so that my sin, that held me in bondage of slavery, would pass away and I would be made new. A new creation in Christ.

  1. What are your thoughts about having your old self crucified with Jesus? What emotion(s) does that bring up?
  2. Have you ever felt enslaved to sin, maybe you feel enslaved right now? What has you shackled?
  3. Have you ever taken a inventory of your sin before you knew Jesus? If not take the time to make one. See if you can you clearly see the difference of life with Christ?
